What a crazy year it’s been. And with the recent tragedies and unnecessary loss of life, I think we all need to heal. Part of that healing for me came a few weekends ago. I was working with my friend/sister at her amazing empowerment event the MotivatedMom Tour. It definitely gave be a spark of hope as Mother’s/women from different walks of life came together to learn, to be inspired and lift each other up.
So, in the midst of all of the amazing women, I had the pleasure and honor of photographing the event. The host and my friend, Latoyia Dean-Dennis (MotivatedMom.org and AChanceToLearn) and her team did an amazing job.
First off, this sold out event, as I mentioned brought together women of different walks and backgrounds, but with a common purpose, to GROW. Mom’s, entrepreneurs, business moguls, basically a room full of super women! There were a number of influential leaders that spoke, including Cameka Smith (Boss Network), Alicia Bowens (Speaker, Author, Coach) and a panel consisting of Cynthia Alfaro (Blogger), Shirley Ann Robertson (Financial Advisor), Rock T (Radio personality on the Rickey Smiley Morning Show), Michelle Thornton (SVP BET Centric & Author) and the amazing Kelly Price! There were also vendors there to share their products and ideas with the entire group.
They created vision boards in a very unique way, which will help to keep them front and center and top of mind and many had the opportunity to share their visions with others. This is such an awesome example of networking, because of the diverse group of women in the room, connections were made to help push each others visions forward. Ideas were shared and expanded, new dreams came to life and fresh wind was given to some old ideas. The common thread that I heard as I roamed the room capturing images, was the desire to see others growing. It’s amazing when you put others first, it always comes back to benefit the giver.
The panel was amazing as they answered some of the tough questions facing Mom’s as entrepreneurs, business women and leaders in the community, including work life balance (is there such a thing?), the importance of family, financial success and so much more. There were incredible thoughts that came from different perspectives that really shed light on the topics and brought hope to the room. The group was incredibly engaging, bringing tears, and a ton of laughter throughout. And let me tell you, Michelle Thornton is flat out hilarious!
I’m so proud of the work Latoyia is doing. She truly has a heart of gold. If you missed the Chicago event, there are still three remaining in 2016 Tour, Dallas/Ft. Worth in August, San Diego in September and Newark in October. If you are in or near any of these cities, please go and register at MotivatedMom.
I’ll leave you with this. One of the my favorite passages of scripture speaks to what I experienced this weekend and I believe is part of the overall solution to issues in every walk of life. Philippians 2:3-4 (ESV) 3 Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. 4 Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.
When you look out for others, in humility, and with the right heart, you will never be in need.
