Now first let me say that this post has nothing to do with photography, per se.  It’s really about life.  One of the things that is super important to me in life/business is recognizing how blessed I am and taking it a step further to be a blessing to someone else.  Quite honestly, there aren’t too many feelings better than what I experience when I give to others.  Giving freely without thought or expectation of getting something in return.

I felt compelled to share another vulnerable moment today.  The bible says that we overcome the enemy by the blood of the lamb and the word of our testimony.  So here goes.  I realize now that we grew up without much.  We weren’t poor in spirit, but we didn’t always have the best of things.  In fact, we never purchased a “new” car, vacations were to see family, not once did we make it out of the country or to Disney, and I didn’t have the latest toys like many of my friends.   Don’t get me wrong, this isn’t a pity party.  LOL  I didn’t know how much we didn’t have until I was an adult.  We were blessed with incredible parents who made sure that we knew we were loved and enjoyed EXPERIENCES.
I wasn’t able to play many organized sports, simply because we couldn’t afford it.  We spent our summers at the city park district playing every sport we could.  Great part about that is that our summer time crew has gone on to do incredible things and are doing extremely well (one even had an awesome college football career and spent several years playing in the NFL!  MAJOR!!). We made the best of what we had and I thank God for his favor and for the experiences along the way that taught me a lot.

So why am I telling you all of this?  Because when you realize how blessed you are and how you made it in spite of what it looked like, I believe its important to do all that I can to be ‘the change” for someone else.  There were people back then like Joe Morgan, who invested in us more than we knew that played a vital role in our success.  And yes, I’m doing it at home for my girls, but I also want to reach beyond my home.  I want to GIVE to someone else who is in need.  I want to help someone else who may not have resources just like my situation when I was a kid.  I want to be that source of HOPE for someone.  I want to help change the trajectory of some young boy or girls life.

I’m an ambassador for an organization “A Chance to Learn” which is a phenomenal organization that was created to combat the issue of children entering kindergarten behind.   This summer we will have an 6 week Science, Math, Arts, Reading and Technology summer learning camp.  The camp is designed to prepare children for higher education with curriculum and hands on activities.  The challenge is that many of the children that need to be in attendance simply can’t afford it.  And that breaks my heart.

Take a look at this flyer for details of the camp.

There are currently 50 students who need assistance today and that number is expected to grow.  Will you help?  Will you be a beacon of light to a child in need?
It is truly more blessed to give than to receive.  “Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.”
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭9:10-11‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Thanks for listening.  Thank you to those that will lend a hand.  Thanks to all that will donate.  Thank you to those who will pray.  Together we can change lives!!
