Have you ever felt like you were right in between something? Not where you were, but not where you know you should be. Not doing all that you should, but more than before. When you long for the promise that was given but feeling so far from it. Living in the meantime…
Living in the Meantime
In the meantime is a crazy place. It’s a place that can be super frustrating because you don’t know what move to make. It can be scary because you want to move but are unsure of the direction. In the meantime can be intimidating because you know there is more but you can’t possibly see how to get to it.
It can be a tough place simply because of the uncertainty. I believe however that there are great things that are birthed in the meantime. When the time is viewed properly, it becomes a chance to regroup, reposition and repair some of the things that have been out of order. In fact, maybe the reason that we end up in the meantime is because we have allowed things to get so out of order. We let our prayer life slip, stopped going to church, slacked on things we know we should have been doing. Of course, there are also just times that are no fault or reason, we’re just there. Nonetheless what we do while there can position us for greater success when we get to that destination.
I have had the pleasure of learning from one of the greatest leaders of our time, Dr. Sam Chand and he shared some dangers that exist in the meantime. Allow me to pass them along to you.
Complacency, frustration, distractions, competition, doubt, wrong counsel. Each of these dangers has the potential to derail you from the future that is ahead. Don’t get stuck. I heard the saying that the only difference between a rut and a grave are the dimensions. The enemy only seeks to steal, kill and destroy. If he can keep you frustrated, distracted, doubting, etc. your “in the meantime” can turn into your lifetime and ultimately become the end time. Hear me well, they are all just tricks of the enemy.
Stop focusing on where you aren’t and enjoy where you are. Yes, you may be in the meantime but there are lessons to learn, prayers to pray and situations designed to build us for what’s next. God is intentional and many times people say that He’ll never put more on you than you can bear (haven’t found that in the bible yet). Truth is he sometimes will put more on you than You can bear because he needs to remind you that HE is the source. In our weakness, His strength is made perfect. So if we never had more on us, would we ever rely on Him?
If you are in a meantime season. Be easy. It’s ok. Learn, grow and live where you are, but don’t get stuck there. You are powerful and have great purpose. This meantime season is preparing you for something much greater!
This blog made me think of the lyrics of the song Meantime by BeBe and CeCe…
