More than just taking pictures. One of the things I love about senior photography and why it’s one of my areas of focus is because of the ability to connect with the young people.
It’s about so much more than just capturing great images. We strive to get to know our seniors and make an impact in their lives beyond the camera. Showing up at games, attending recitals, simply being available. Now I know I can hear someone saying “Ain’t nobody got time for that” and yes time is precious. But so are the children of this generation and next.
The late teenage years are so important and if we can assist in any way in the growth and development or just become another voice rooting them on, that’s what really matters. It’s about leaving a Legacy and showing that we care. Growing up I had a few influential voices and they definitely helped shape me into who I am today.
One of the greatest influences to me and a bunch of my friends was Joe Morgan. He was the leader at the local Rec. center. Joe invested so much in us. He taught us strength and perseverance, challenged us to play sports that were non traditional and made us champions along the way. Some of my greatest childhood memories are on softball fields, soccer fields, horseshoe pits, and tennis courts. I’m forever grateful for the time he invested in us.
So don’t we owe it to ourselves and those before us to leave the world greater than we found it? Why not leave impressions that will last forever? It doesn’t take much but the impact is far greater that we will ever know.
Doesn’t take much to be a listening ear. What does it hurt to show up at a game or concert? A little encouragement goes a long way! Yeah, it’s about so much more than just taking pictures. And we do more because we care.
