So, I received quite a few DM requests asking how to update your spring wardrobe…Well here it is!
These are items that I’ve updated for my wardrobe to make it more current and trendy. I tried to pull things that are “cost friendly” but in my opinion you should spend a little more for these quality items in order for them to last for seasons to come because they are staples. You have to look at these purchases as quality investments.
The Moto leather jacket is a hot item right now simply because it can give your plain dress/top a little edge that it may be lacking. This jacket can be worn with dressy or casual items depending on your comfort level. I’m loving the cape effect with jackets. This is when you don’t necessarily wear the jacket on your arms, but draped over your shoulders for the “I’m too cool for school-look” haha. This will add a bit of drama to your outfit and make you look on trend!
The Denim jacket is another key piece and if you buy the right one it can be worn for yearssss! I recommend shying away from excessively trendy denim jackets, yet find one in a great color either in a light, medium, or dark wash with minimum rips and distressing. The one I own is pretty basic, it’s this Old Navy one right here. It’s a medium blue wash and has a classic fit, which pairs well black denim, khaki’s, white denim, and dresses!
The Trench coat is another great staple to own. I have my eyes on this Burberry one! It’s on my wish list, but in the meantime there are a lot of fab ones at great price points that you can rock with confidence. When looking for a trench, again stay away from being too trendy, so it will last for may seasons. Make sure it’s a great fit and the length stops at mid calf. If you’re on the shorter side, shop petite sizes to make sure you get the correct fit.
Basic tees are great updates in the neutrals. I always grab white, black, gray, and occasionally I’ll throw an olive color in as well. I’m learning that all tees are not created equal. For that reason, I recommend paying a little bit more for tee’s because one with great quality will hide a lot of bumps and lumps that somehow show up on their cheaper counterparts. I have found Target does a great job with their tees if you’re looking to save a few coins.
Concert tees are HUGE right now and I love them! They are so edgy and can be dressed down with distressed denim or you can dress it up with a cute leather skirt and high waist black trousers for a cute rooftop party look!
The Classic white button up is another staple to add to your wardrobe. Not too much to add here, however make sure it’s a good fit and is a breathable material.
Stripes are always on my list! Anyone who knows me knows that I’m pretty much obsessed with stripes and usually gravitate towards them. However, they do serve as a great addition to updating your tops. Stripe tops can be dressed up or down very easily.
Find good denim that fits you correctly and doesn’t pinch you in the wrong places creating unwanted muffin top (no one wants that). Skinny jeans are still really on trend and I recommend buying a good classic denim, white, or black (for dressier occasions) colors. For fun occasions/outings, add a fun style boyfriend or mom jeans which I’m really loving right now! I have this GAP Pair of “mom jeans” and they fit like a dream!
These basics will help you create more outfit variation in addition to what’s currently in your wardrobe. These few pieces will get you through spring with a fresh updated start 🙂
