Have you ever considered that some of the things you have been taught over the years was just wrong? Or maybe it worked in a particular timeframe, but doesn’t apply with today’s circumstances? Maybe, just maybe its time that you change your mind. I believe that it all starts in the mind and what we see or don’t see comes from what we believe (or don’t).
The bible tells us to not be conformed to the world, but to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. So why then is it so hard to change? I believe part of it is because we have been conditioned to think a certain way for 20, 30, or more years and to let go of a past way and choose differently can be super challenging.
It happens with our money habits. How many of us were told “money doesn’t grow on trees” or “do i look like an ATM?” There were things that subtly influenced us, good or bad, that for many still effects how we view money. Some of us have and are still stuck simply because of how we think about it.
I see the same thing in relationships. We do what we saw. Or we hated what we saw so much that we do the polar opposite but still have opportunities because we’re trying SOOOO hard not to be something.
I don’t have all the answers, but I do know this. The moment you decide to start challenging what was and start thinking differently is when things can begin to change. I get up daily and spend time with myself before starting each day. I spend 4 minutes quietly (talking to God or just being quiet to listen). I then spend 4 minutes reading affirmations to myself. Next up, I spend 4 minutes visualizing how I want my day, week, business, life to look (and yes, I get specific. I see my new office/studio/loft space, etc.). I also spend 4 minutes in devotion time. I spend 4 minutes exercising to get my blood flowing and then another 4 minutes visualizing again.
It’s important for me to shift the way I think because I realized as I started reading and learning that many of my shortfalls weren’t because of circumstances, they were rooted in poor thinking. I was attracting all kind of mess because that’s what was in my head. I call is subconscious sabotage. Now that I know better, I have to do better (right, Maya Angelou?).
So if you feel like you’ve been stuck. Do something about it. I’ve been reading the book “Secrets of the Millionaire Mind” and it’s been life changing. It caused me to assess and get rid of horrible thoughts that I learned about money over time. I remember saying that I wouldn’t get rich without working hard for it (because that’s what I learned). Truth is, I am getting rich and my money is working hard, not me (don’t get me wrong I work hard too, but i’m working smarter). Challenge yourself and do things differently. It starts when you change your mind.
