Teen Photoshoot

Well, the time has come, she is no longer a little girl but a teenager (although both my girls know they will always be my babies). Not her birthday yet, but we shoot early to avoid cold weather. We speak the cliche all the time, but timeโฐ surely does flyโœˆ๏ธ. And fly it did.

The Tradition

We made it a plan to have an annual birthday shoot and here we are with the 13th iteration. It’s always fun to come up with the outfits, and locations and to see her growth over the years. This year, she picked the location and picked out most of her outfits and you know she came with the ๐Ÿ”ฅ. Although she doesn’t really model anymore, she still knows how to bring the model out when she steps in front of the camera.

The Hair

Because of her rough gymnastics schedule and the ease of maintenance, she had braids most of the summer, but as fall rolled in she wanted to go back to her straight hair (with curly ends) for a while (especially for her pics). So we visited the awesomeness of Treesha Young (treeshayoung.booksy.com if you are in the area) and she did a phenomenal job as always. You know it’s good when KJ comes out of the shop grinning from ear to ear ๐Ÿ˜.

Shoot Day

Although we missed our call time (yes, I like to be on time) it was a beautiful partly sunny day. The clouds created an amazing soft light throughout the entire shoot. Of course, I had my AD200 on the job (you can find my equipment list HERE) so I was blending natural light and flash. I think the results speak for themselves. I shoot natural light as I did HERE and I use flash. I never wanted to be in a position where I wasn’t able to get a great picture, so I studied and learned (continuing to learn even now) how to shoot with a light meter and utilize not only what the situation provides, but when it provides nothing I create!

I love the energy KJ brings to every shoot. She is so much fun to work with and helps me to push boundaries to get incredible pictures. I love it when Erica is with us too because I have a built-in stylist on hand. She is always making sure the hair is right, adjusting collars, and making sure it all looks right. It is always good to have help on a teen photoshoot. You guessed it, I have a dope squad.

The Pics

So, I’ve sprinkled some of the images throughout the blog, and here are a few more. I’ve also posted a few from years past. I hope you’ve enjoyed the journey.
